Traffic Exchanges Revisited - Part Two

In order to maximize exposure for your websites and reap the most benefit from the traffic exchanges, you need to join a few programs and be able to surf more than one exchange at once. My recommendation is to download a browser that will open in tabs. There are a few choices available but my favorite is a tabbed browser called AMBrowser. I prefer this browser mainly because of its efficiency in blocking the ever so annoying pop up in all its different manifestations.

What I do to make my surfing manageable is to group my exchanges in bunches of 4 or 5 and then assign days of the week to each group when I will do my surfing of these particular group of exchanges. Once on AMBrowser, which by the way, to the best of my knowledge and experience, will not put adware or spyware in your PC, look to the upper left hand side and click on "favorites." You will see "add to favorites" on top. Click on that and a small window will open where you will be able to name your folders and save them. It is very simple and straight forward. Create a folder and call it "Monday surfing" or something like that. Assign 4 or 5 traffic exchanges to the folder and save. Repeat in that manner for as many days as you wish to surf. The whole idea is to break down your surfing so that the same is not this monumental, boring-as-hell task involving 20 traffic exchanges where you will have to spend 25 hours a day in front of your PC or laptop. I usually surf for about an hour or so from Mondays through Thursdays.

I begin by opening up AMBrowser, going to favorites, clicking on my day folder and opening all 5 links. The exchanges open up in tabs. I click on a tab, view the website until the counter runs out or until I'm satisfied that I have seen enough. I then go to the next tab and repeat the process for about an hour.

One little trick that will make the surfing experience easier is the following: Once you sign up with the traffic exchange, you will be assigned a link called the "startpage." This is the page you will be surfing from and it is tagged with your user ID. You often get the link to this page on the confirmation email the exchange sends you when you first sign up. Anyway, sign on to your account, find your startpage link, click on it and save this to your favorites instead of the home page URL. By doing that, you will save yourself the trouble of having to log in to the traffic exchange the next time you are scheduled to surf as the browser will open up (in many cases) right on the surfing page and you will be able to pick up where you left off.

To conclude I will add that the best way to gain the most out of the traffic exchanges is to build (dare I say it?) a downline by advertising your assigned promotion link. Exchanges offer compensation several levels deep where you get a percentage of you referrals' traffic. So if you recruit a whole bunch of people under you and they in turn recruit more people and so on, that can translate into thousands of free "hits" to your websites a day. There are many people out there who get fifty, sixty-thousand hits a day and more to their websites without them having to lift a finger anymore because they took the time and had the patience to build their downline. I hope to be one of those people within a few months.

Boxer - The Facts Every Owner Of This Dog Breed Should Know

A German breed descending from mastiffs, the Boxer was originally bred for the purpose of hunting. The first Boxers were bred to be fierce but these traits are not seen today. Boxers today tend to be gentle, loving and energetic dogs. They are stocky dogs of a medium size. Male Boxers will grow to an average height of 22 to 25 inches and weight of 60 to 70 pounds. Females Boxers will reach an average height of 21 to 24 inches and weight of 53 to 65 pounds. Boxers have an average life span of 11 to 14 years. Their coats are smooth and shorthaired, making Boxers easy to groom. In fact, Boxers tend to be 'clean freaks' and will clean themselves regularly. Generally, Boxer coats come in only two colors: brindle and fawn.

Some Boxers have white markings on them, known as flash, which can extend all over making them appear white. Boxers have short muzzles and their lower jaws extend past their upper ones. This gives them a very secure bite, something useful when they were hunting. Boxers are considered highly intelligent and easy to train. However, they can be independent thinkers and this can make them stubborn and sneaky. Though energetic they are gentle with children and other animals (if properly socialized) and make an excellent family pet.

They enjoy playing with children and will protect its family when a stranger approaches. Once introduced to the stranger, though, he will become a friend and the Boxer will greet him with enthusiasm in the future. Boxers are energetic dogs that love to run, jump, fetch and play so once daily exercise at a minimum is required. Boxers tend to be fairly active indoors and may become destructive if not given time to 'burn off some steam.' A well fenced in yard (if off leash) is also a must. Boxers are prone to many medical problems. Due to their short snouts, they tend to snore and drool, and have difficulty regulating their body temperature, making it difficult for them to live in locations where temperature extremes are common.

Boxers are also more likely to develop cardiomyopathy, sub-aortic stenosis, and hip dysplasia. Some Boxers are prone to epilepsy, and from age eight on they are more likely to get tumors than other breeds. They tend to have allergies and some Boxers may have excessive flatulence. Some white Boxers are prone to deafness. Boxers may also develop corneal dystrophy or Demodectic mange and some are prone to bloat. torsion (bloat) and if they do not get enough exercise will quickly become obese, leading to other health problems.

There is a website that has great information on Boxers and most other breeds of dogs. It has details that pertain to a dog breeds health, grooming, living conditions, best food choices and more, the website is called: Dog And Cat Facts, and can be found at this url:

Holes In Your Programs And How They Can Help Install Rootkits

Have you ever wondered why you have anti virus, anti spyware, anti adware ( Microsoft Windows Defender, Spybot, Spywareblaster ) but but still get windows popping up with ads, your hard drive is constantly churning or your internet usage stats have gone sky high.

Many users have the latest greatest software for stopping viruses and spyware but what they don't know is that a programs like Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word and other commonly used programs have "holes" in them that allow an attacker to take control of their computer from a remote location. The attacker can then install whatever application they want. Keyloggers and Spyware ( to name a few ) along with programs that send out Spam to millions of email accounts around the world seem to be the most popular at the moment.

A lot of these programs that an attacker installs are hidden by a rootkit which will prevent many scanning programs from finding the malware. For example when your Spyware scanner scans your computer the rootkit will "tell" the scanner "nothing here" but you will still get spyware pop-ups.

"Typically, a crimeware exploit will install a rootkit along with a package of spyware, adware, and other malware applications when you visit a site that has been set up, accidentally or deliberately, as an exploit distribution site. Aside from some hard disk activity, you probably won't know that anything has happened, until odd pop-ups start appearing. Those pop-ups may ask you to install some software, tell you there's a problem with your system, or even ask you for money."

Explabs - Exploit Prevention Labs

When a program like MS Word is being written there are millions of lines of computer code being used. The possibility of human error when writing the code in inevitable and because there is no obvious signs of the error in the code the developer can overlook it.

Earlier this year a hole was found in various Microsoft Operating systems that allowed an attacker, who had made a graphic file ( WMF ) in a certain way, remote control of a users computer when they opened the graphic. All a user had to do was to visit a site that the graphic was being used on and they were infected.

"Windows Metafile exploit from December 2005. Uses a little-known feature of Windows Metafiles to execute arbitrary code, including malware. The exploit, a genuine zero-day attack, was allegedly purchased for $5,000 from a Russian hacking group. Seven months after Microsoft issued a patch, its still widely used by cybercriminals."

Explabs - Exploit Prevention Labs - August 2006 Exploits

Exploit Prevention Labs keep an eye out for what's happening with current software holes. According to Explabs in August 2006 a program called Webattacker that can be bought from as little as little as $20 was the most used attacking software used. It is updated regularly to include attacks on newly found software holes.

Only recently there was a new hole or vulnerability found in Internet Explorer. Code for attackers was posted on the Internet. Microsoft have not issued a patch for this hole and there is currently no known workaround. The new Internet Explorer problem is related to an ActiveX control (Microsoft DirectAnimation Path) that's part of the "daxctle.ocx" COM object. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could hijack the computer.

So what can a user do to stop themselves being attacked through a hole in their programs?

If a user runs in administrator mode they will always have a chance of being infected by a newly found hole. The attacker will have the option to install the malware whereas if a user was running as a restricted user then the attacker could not install the malware.

Users can also use products like Explabs SocketShield. This is an excellent piece of software that is updated as soon as new holes are found. They already provide protection from the new Internet Explorer hole.

New vulnerabilities command a lot of money from attackers. People who find a new hole in software can go to Hackers and malware writers and sell the details of the hole for substantial amounts of money as was seen with the WMF exploit. It goes without saying that there will be more and more rogue software engineers looking for software holes because of the monetary benefits. Maybe if Microsoft payed these guys for finding holes we could all rest a bit easier when surfing the Internet.

Keep Safe.

How To Correct A Continually Rebooting Computer

When you sit down at your computer desk and press the power switch on your desktop, the last thing you want to experience is a continually rebooting computer.

There are a variety of causes that contribute to this problem, from something as simple as a stuck power button to a much more serious problem as your power supply slowly failing. Other causes for this problem may be overheating PC components, or viruses affecting your system.

Now, if youre like the rest of us, having a computer that reboots constantly is not our idea of a productive day. So how do you diagnose this problem and where do you start to to make corrections. Here are some common but often overlooked causes and solutions that will get your system running again.

First take a look at the power button and see if its stuck in the socket. If so, you may be able to simple tap the front of the case to release the button. In some cases, you may have to remove the system unit cover to get the button to return to the out position.

If you cannot stop the computer from rebooting by pressing the power button and releasing it, turn off the power switch in the back of the computer next to the power supply. If your power supply do not have a power switch, you will have to unplug the system from the wall outlet.

This must be done as soon as possible so that the constant rebooting will not damage components such as the hard drive. Constant rebooting also have the danger of power surges that can further damage larger components such as the motherboard.

Second you check your computers software by checking to be sure no virus or malware have not effected your hard drive. Virus and malware are small software that is downloaded along with other files that is designed to cause mischief.

To remove any viruses and malware, use a anti-virus program that will search your hard drive and remove these file quickly. These files can cause such damage as wiping your hard drive of all data or hijacking your web browser so you have no control over your online surfing.

If you find no malware on your computer, take a look at your BIOS to see if it has become unstable or has been changed. BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System and is a small program designed to check all components for proper operation when the computer is turned on.

If your BIOS has been changed or if youre not sure if its been changed, try to reset the BIOS settings to the default settings after you access the BIOS as the computer reboots.Once inside the BIOS, you should have the option to load your default settings, save the change, and reboot the computer.

However, there are times when a continually rebooting computer will not allow you to access the BIOS. You can then reset the BIOS by removing the system unit cover and locating the jumper on a three pin header.

You must consult your computer or motherboard manual to properly perform this procedure and it should be done as a last resort. Before making any changes to your BIOS, you should backup your BIOS if your computer reboots at long intervals.

After checking your computers software for its rebooting problem, you must check to be sure hardware is not at fault. This problem may exist because one of your memory modules are unseated from its socket . Memory modules are long, narrow sticks that attach to the motherboard.

Remove any static electricity from yourself, remove the system unit cover and check these memory modules to be sure they are secure. Check the connections to the hard drive and the connections leading from the power supply.

Power supply connectors should be checked if youve done work inside your computer recently. Power Supplies are known to slowly fail and lead to rebooting problems. There is no way to check an ailing power supply and this should be considered the problem as a last resort.

Following these steps will help you correct any computer that continually reboots itself. If no virus or malware is found, carefully and thoroughly check all connections. And if the problem still exist, the most likely cause would be the Power Supply.

Anti-Spyware and Registry Cleaner in Conjunction.

Spyware may dump a lot of irrelevant data in the registry. This may also be links of sites secretly being added to your favorite folder list not to mention the number of cookies it creates in the temp folder. Cleaning the registry and running anti-Spyware will help.

Before we understand the need for spyware removal software, let us have an overview of what spyware is. Spyware can be described as software that intentionally transmits information about the user's web surfing habits to a website built into the software or Spyware. This malicious software often referred to as 'adware' usually installs itself on a user computer without the permission or knowledge of the user. Spyware usually accompanied a free download as a hidden component and begins to gather information about the user then delivers this information to the person who put the Spyware on the web. Spyware can be categorized into a number of classes. It may be software that is intentionally installed by the user to monitor the system security, Software that can be created with benign intent to collect marketing data or software that is malicious and installed to collect information such as usernames and passwords for criminal intent. Whatever the reason for the Spyware, it must be removed by using the appropriate software such as many of the free Microsoft Spyware removal tools and then cleaning the system registry with a good registry cleaner.

How Does Spyware Affect The Registry?

The windows registry is a very big file containing information that is required the all the modules of windows to operate the system efficiently. When the system starts the registry is referred to for the permissions that are allowed to the specific user. Accordingly the operating system advances with the boot up process. Each time a new program or hardware is installed in the system a lot of information is added the system registry. However, when programs are uninstalled the registry remains intact. These links and references need to be removed manually or with special software such as free Adware Spyware removal tools or Windows XP cleaner software. It is not advisable to mess with the registry manually as this can wreck havoc with the system. Get a good reliable free Spyware and Virus removal utility if you have to, to do an efficient job for you. Spyware installs itself on the system and makes its entries in the registry as well. These entries are made in many places in the registry. So, uninstalling the Spyware from the programs folder is not enough, the ware must also be removed from the registry and there is no better way to do this than with a Microsoft Spyware removal tools.

Clean The Registry Once A Month

After some time the registry will become slow and erratic because of the useless entries that are not really needed and are just cluttering up the system. The system may even shut down without warning. This is because the registry has become unstable and needs to be cleaned with PC registry cleaner software. It is not necessary that the registry will become because of Spyware or viruses. It may just be too large for the processor or the system resources to handle. Cleaning the registry will make the system more dependable, fast and comfortable to work with.

Not Sure How To Safeguard Your Children? Keep Reading!

It is natural for parents to worry about their children throughout the day when they are out of sight at school or away from home. The one place they should never worry for their child is when they are home. Unfortunately, parents do worry when they leave their children alone in front of the television. There are many shows these days containing violence, sexual content, and adult language that are easily accessible to anyone with a remote control. The question for todays parents is how to allow their children access to only the good, educational programs on television and not the adult-themed programs without sitting and watching with them. Satellite Television provider DirecTV has found the answer and is offering it free to every one of their customers. It is called Parental Controls, and parents everywhere are thankful for it.

TV Shows Are Rated Like the Movies

DirecTVs Parental Controls feature protects children on several levels. The program is mainly based around the rating system that is now required by the government for every show on television. Just as with movies, TV shows are required to have a certain rating based on their content in order to help parents decide what is proper viewing material for their children. A rating of R in movies is the same as a rating of TVMA in television. PG for movies is TVPG for television and so on. These ratings for television shows can be found in the program listings/guide of the satellite system and in the top corner at the beginning of every show. Now, lets see how DirecTVs Parental Controls uses the ratings system to make life less worrisome for parents.

A PIN Number Controls It All

Parental Controls works within the Direct TV Satellite system to block specific shows, movies, and even entire channels. The parent decides what they want to block their child from viewing by using the easy-to-understand instructions within the Satellite Program Setup. Parents set what type of ratings for shows and movies they want blocked as well as entire channels if they desire to. However, these are not blocked forever. Parental Controls requires the parent to establish a 4-digit PIN number like you would have with a Bank Card. The parents, and those they share it with, are the only ones that know this PIN. When a child is channel surfing and they come upon a program or channel the parent has blocked, the Direct TV Satelite System asks for the preset PIN number before allowing anyone to watch. Since the child does not know the PIN number, they cannot watch. Since the parents do know the PIN number, they can watch.

Parent Controls Other Functions

This Direct TV Satelite function also allows you to set limited viewing times to prevent children, or even adults, from watching television all day and night. You also can set spending limits. One of the great benefits of Satelite TV is the wide variety and numerous Pay-Per-View programs available. Parental Controls lets you set a spending limit on how many of these programs can be ordered. Its a great way to keep from being surprised with an enormous bill of unknown purchases. Parental Controls is just one of the many great features that Satelite Television provider Direct TV has to offer. With this and all its other innovative technologies, it is no wonder why they have over 16 million customers with more joining every day.

Why Do You Need A Registry Cleaner?

Before we understand the need of registry cleaner, let us understand what registry is and why you need a registry cleaner to enhance PC performance. Just as you would store your documents in a file, the Windows stores all information about your computer in a Registry, such as all the software and hardware settings, and everything about the system configuration. It is the most critical aspect of the operating system, and needs to be cleaned periodically. A Registry Cleaner is a program that looks for and deletes outdated entries.

Using a registry cleaner periodically will make your computer run better. Registry was first introduced by Microsoft in Windows 95. Before this, configuration settings were all stored in INI (Initialization) files scattered all over the hard drive. Due to this, it was quite difficult to keep a track of them. A registry consolidated all information in a central location. It is a central cache of all settings, options, and preferences of the PC, manages the start up options, and keeps a track of the various software installed in the system.

Removing the Build Up

Over time, the registry in a computer builds up and this can make the computer unstable and have a slow start up. As you keep on using your computer, the registry keeps on building up with obsolete and unnecessary information. These need to be cleaned up using a registry cleaner.

This is especially true for Windows 95 and 98. However, Windows NT, XP and 200x also have a lot of entries that are not necessary, and are created when programs are installed or removed. It is always advisable to use a registry cleaner to remove these unwanted entries to make your computer run faster.

The registry cleaner scans the registry to trace the obsolete data, deletes it to enable your computer to run error free and enhance the performance of your PC. Most cleaners have a backup function to help you backup your registry before cleaning it, in case you encounter a system failure, and some files get deleted inadvertently. You can get a free registry cleaner or trial version. But the free or trial versions have their limitations therefore it is better if you select a licensed registry cleaning software for this purpose.

A damaged Windows registry in your computer can corrupt your whole system, rendering it unusable. To keep this vital part of your computer in a good working and an un-bloated condition, a good registry cleaner should have the following features:

Automatic scanning of the registry and its cleanup

Backup and restoration of the full registry

A startup organizer

Removing Trojan, which utilizes startup files

One particular registry cleaner may not be compatible for all types of computer systems. They have their own minimum system requirements, such as :

Some that are compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP may not be suitable for other versions of Windows. Some require a particular class of processor with a certain amount of RAM

You may need a certain amount of empty hard disc space.

Now decide, do you need a registry cleaner or not?

Advantages of Online Card Games

Even though I am a huge fan of playing cards, I cannot set aside an evening to play poker with my friends and family because we all have very busy schedules. I miss those evenings when we played poker for hours. Nothing can be compared with sitting down with your friends for a lovely evening of cards, remembering old times and funny memories, drinking a few beers and having some snacks. Personally I find this the best way to enjoy my friends. However, when this is not possible, then I turn to playing online card games, my second favorite activity.

Playing online card game is really easy, you don't have to call your friends and try to arrange a convenient time and place for everyone to get together and play poker. When playing online, you sign in and then you just get started, everyone is already there, you have virtual cards and a virtual table, as well. Everything is redistributed, cheating is impossible and all you have to do is sit down and play the hand. When you get bored, you are free to go or you could change the table. There are even people who can play two or three online card games at the same time. I can only admire such dedication.

When playing online, you can still make some new friends. Online card games have the opportunity for text conversation, so you can talk to the people you are playing with. Using this chat is great because you are not face to face and you don't get nervous about meeting strangers. Moreover, you can pretend to be someone you are not and no one will question you. If you start feeling uncomfortable or you get bored with the game, you can leave whenever you want. Playing online card games has the advantages of face-to-face card playing without the disadvantage of commitment and effort. However, no matter how good online card games might be, nothing is better than a nice poker night with your old friends sharing memories and having a few drinks.

Custom Development Software - Genie In A Package

Technology is making the world approach newer developments everyday and today, high competition compels us to find the best programming packages that fulfill the exact needs of our businesses in minimum possible time and at most appropriate budget. This demand brings the idea of custom development software. These are exclusive programs created with the demands of a specific business in mind and differ from the off-the-shelf programs, which may not meet individual business specifications. Also, a readily- available package, at times, is difficult to operate unlike the custom development software solutions. However, the requirement for great expertise and knowledge is paramount for developing custom software as much as the powerful backing of proven processes.

The field of custom development has opened opportunities for every one: employees, partners and clients. The professionalism that one expects from software developers and a development company are thus reflected from the timely delivery of projects, stating of major project goal accomplished, and timely assistance: be it in any difficulty or general help, a reliable custom development software company shall see that all these services are taken care of.

The Benefits of custom development software

* Less expensive as compared to generic applications.
* Lack undesirable features that are of no use to a certain business unlike readily available ones.
* Saves time.
* Easier to operate.
* Flexible for future modifications.

The Process

Custom developing starts with identifying the goals and the needs of a business. That way, one gets the exact features that are needed, saving time for both the business and its employees.

With discussing the requirements and performing a detailed analysis of your business, the process for building custom software starts off. Software professional and developers then get started with the development and designing.

The effectiveness of custom development software depends upon many factors. These are:

* Supporting processes.
* A team of professionals and their expertise in the domain.
* Company Infrastructure.
* Customer support.
* Software Quality.
* Maintenance and support

Finding the right service provider

It is of utmost importance for the team to understand the type of business to develop the software. A well-planned and structured approach is thus important to bring about an effective functionality. However, before outsourcing the orders for custom development software, one must go for a prior research to find out the best software development company that holds a sound experience, employs robust software development processes and lays great emphasis on testing and quality assurance. An offshore development center and a dedicated team adds extra benefits to the service buyer in terms of observation of the entire project.

Internet Explorer 7 Hits The Mean Streets

It didn't take long after Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7 for download for the exploits and vulnerabilities to appear, with many reporters and security companies scrambling over each other in order to publish about the new Internet Explorer flaw.

Only, it wasn't.

Argument and counter-argument ensued, with Microsoft quickly defending the issue as being an Outlook Express issue and not an Internet Explorer flaw. That sleight of hand didn't satisfy many, who pointed out that the same flaw had been identified back in April, when it was attributed to Internet Explorer 6. At the end of the day, Internet Explorer 7 is a possible vector to exploit an error in the handling of 'mhtml:' addresses - which can result in the disclosure of sensitive information.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only issue to have affected Internet Explorer 7, with earlier beta versions susceptible to the WMF vulnerabilities that were identified and patched over the 2005 - 2006 Christmas / New Year period. The unknown issues with Internet Explorer 7 are going to be a greater concern over coming months, as Microsoft is expected to use Automatic Update to provide the application to Windows XP SP2 users in November.

A positive aspect is that many computer users will get to experience the improved CSS handling, improved security, tabbed browsing, and the other general improvements that Internet Explorer 7 brings to the system.

Every Dog Barks At The Moon Sometimes

Over the last couple of weeks, many security 'experts' and companies (including some of the biggest, most 'respected' names) have been busy displaying an amazing amount of hubris and arrogance in their coverage of what would normally be regarded as minor news items.

After Apple Computer disclosed that an unknown, but believed to be very small, number of iPods were shipped with some Windows malware preinstalled (claims range from virus to adware), there was an almost unanimous hammering of the company's claims. By Windows and Microsoft supporters (such as top Information Security companies and people). Almost all of the vitriol was focussed around the "we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it." statement, which appeared on Apple's site (http://www.apple.com/support/windowsvirus/) in relation to the issue.

Many called Apple 'arrogant', and attacked any perceived ills that they might have had with the company. Unfortunately, in their rush to attack Apple, most completely bypassed (or were unaware of) a broader incident that affected a joint promotion being run by McDonald's and Coca-Cola in Japan, where 10,000 media players were distributed. Only, the players were infected with password stealing malware.

Elsewhere, an unnamed expert, who crusades against hysteria and false claims in security (and, more frequently, terrorism), fell into their own trap recently. They claimed that firefighters who treated jelly (the gelatinous dessert) as a potential HAZMAT threat (before it had been identified) were over-reacting to it as a terror risk. While it does sound funny that firefighters would be running around in HAZMAT suits trying to deal with somebody's unwanted dessert, it is a fairly standard practice when emergency services are faced with unknown substances that have been abandoned.

Perhaps it is my background in aviation and engineering related fields, but nothing is done without a healthy factor of safety (risk management), and the initial response was completely appropriate. People have died because they didn't know enough about the material that they were handling (Goinia, Asbestosis, Miner's Lung, and others). Sometimes the simple answer is the correct answer, even if it might be misconstrued.

Archiving in the Technological Era

Data retention has long been a vital business practice, allowing companies to use client information, assess company growth, and retrieve and manipulate data on past performance, all with the goal of propelling business growth and success. A number of factors contribute to a companys need to retain data, such as future analyses of business processes and compliance with government regulations that continue to lay out stricter requirements regarding the retention, disclosure and disposal of business data. The technological era has brought about a proliferation of electronic file data, spurring revolutionary change in the way data is collected, retrieved, archived and disclosed.

Businesses are faced with the challenge of adhering to varying data retention requirements at the federal and state levels. Many recent laws have increased the length of time that businesses must retain data, placing increasing pressure on companies to institute data archiving systems with the capacity to securely store increasing amounts of information, possibly for decades. Besides placing time requirements on data retention, regulations also require that data be secure, unable to be edited and produced on demand with short notice. To ensure security and that records are retained in a non-editable format, organizations must have an archiving system separate from the operational and reference data that is still needed for frequent business transactions and queries.

Some notable sanctions propelling the need for businesses to implement a comprehensive data retention system are the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and BASEL II. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which imposes strict standards regarding the retention of accounting data, was overwhelmingly passed in 2002 by the United States House of Representatives and the Senate. HIPAA, commonly known as the Privacy Rule, is a health industry standard aimed at allowing the flow of patients health data for health research purposes without disclosing an individuals protected health information, and requiring entities to preserve and be prepared to readily disclose data for six years. Similarly, BASEL II places disclosure requirements on the financial industry.

Ever increasing data retention requirements also place monumental pressure on enterprise data availability software companies to produce the most advanced archiving solutions with tremendous capacities and prolonged reliability. Available data archiving solutions give companies the capability of storing great amounts of data that is no longer needed for business purposes in a protected, non-editable format in a location that will not affect the data that is crucial to business operations. Such systems can provide a user friendly interface to streamline implementation of a companys data archiving strategy, and automatically discard information once it reached the mandatory data retention time frame.

Effects Of Spyware On The Computer

Spyware has a lot of side effects of the registry. One of the greatest drawbacks is the slowing down of the system. This process will continue until the registry is cleaned with a registry cleaner.

If you have browsed the Internet for a substantial number of hours it is guaranteed that you have downloaded some sort of Spyware to your system, albeit inadvertently. That is the reason it is called Spyware. If it made itself known it would not be spying. Spyware is not illegal software. It is downloaded with the 'permission' of the user. Once the Spyware downloads and installs itself it begins, first of all, to consolidate itself on the machine. It does this by entering its information in multiple parts of the registry. These entries can only be removed with Spyware removal utilities and there are many free anti Spyware and Adware removal tools available to do a satisfactory job for you.

Effects On The Registry

A lot of add-on Internet Explorer tool bars are also Spyware. They constantly monitor the users browsing habits and the type of software that is installed and run on the computer. At times this may be helpful to the user as the relevant advertisements are directed to the browser. However, in the long run this Spyware will definitely slow down the system to a crawl. This malicious software must be removed from the system as soon as possible with free Adware and Spyware removal tools. Spyware is constantly making entries to the registry. This makes the registry grow out of proportion. Since the system has to refer to the registry multiple times in a session, the registry has to be scanned from the beginning every time. Considering that the registry has tens of thousands of records it may take a very long time to scan and locate the information being sought. Spyware keeps adding junk to the registry and this slows the system down.

Removal Technique

Spyware can be removed from the Computer with the use of anti-Spyware utilities. However, these utilities will only uninstall the Spyware from the operating system. The anti-Spyware utilities are not designed to go in to the registry hives and make changes. Going into the registry and removing the entries is very specialized operations and cannot be clubbed with some other software or program. Removing the Spyware entries from the registry is very important. Because once the Spyware determines that the exe file has been removed it will kick in from the registry and reinstall the exe from the Internet site it came from initially. Therefore removing the entries with a registry cleaner is very important. Free Microsoft Spyware removal tools and PC registry Cleaner are good software that can remove all redundant and bad entries from the system registry.

Qualities Of A Good Registry Cleaner

A good free Spyware removal utility will have three facilities such as a registry backup function a restore function and a scan and repair function. It is important that the spyware cleaner make a good backup of the registry just in case the system fails to function properly after the computer clean up.

Features And Benefits Of Anti-Spam Software

The best anti-spam software is the one that gives you your privacy. Ideally, an anti-spam device should be the one that delivers only the emails you want, and blocks 100 percent of the emails you do not want. This, though, is never going to be possible. Spammers are always one step ahead, and the manufacturers of anti-spam filter tries to catch up.

Most anti-spam solution can be customized to your needs, and only the approved emails come into your inbox. Such software always presumes that all the incoming emails are spam, and only allow those, from the people you know, to come in.

Benefits of Anti Spam Software

Let us look at some of the benefits and features of anti-spam software:

Blocking Spam Certain anti-spam solutions not only block specific email addresses, but also look for subject lines and text in the email messages. You can arrange to block incoming emails based on senders, and also if your email address is not in the recipient field.

Automatic Filter Updates Most software programs for filtering Spam come with hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of filters built in. In addition, companies offering these software release new anti-spam filters regularly. This ensures that your anti-spam software is always up-to-date.

Creating Custom Filters Some anti-spam programs allow you to create your own filters, depending on the spam you receive.

Quarantining Spam Anti-spam filters automatically quarantine the spam emails, ensuring your inbox is spam free. Such quarantined emails are held for a fixed number of days, say 30 days or so, and then dumped. The delay allows you to check and recover any legitimate email that may have been quarantined.

Your Personal Whitelist A feature in certain anti-spam software allows you to maintain a friendly list of people whose emails you wish to accept. These emails are never mistaken for spam as against the blacklist of spammers. You can always update your whitelist, as and when you wish to.

Monitoring Multiple Accounts Other than deleting spam from your email account, this feature allows you to monitor and filter your email from multiple accounts. It allows you to filter your home email from work, and vice versa.

Reporting Spam There is an option in certain anti-spam software to report back to the company supplying the program. This allows the companies to develop new filters based on the analysis of the reported spam.

Some anti-spam software allow you to block attachments. Certain executable attachments could damage your computer.

Emails have become a very popular way of advertising, and it is time that you start filtering your emails, to avoid spam. Most software available can be customized to suit your requirements, whether they are the home or the business versions. Get a Spam Filter now to block spam mails.

Computer Security - Startling Facts

Working on the Internet provides Internet marketers with the opportunity to make a living in the comfort of their own home. Computer Security includes threats such as viruses, identity theft, spyware, adware to name but a few. The latest statistics show that at least over 900 new viruses are created each month which makes keeping track of them really quite difficult. This article would cover three (3) subtopics namely: The Internet, Spyware and Antivirus.

Internet

If you use your computer on the internet, you need (at minimum) anti virus software. The problem of computer security is the number one problem in todays networks and Internet engineering. As hackers use different means to crack the security systems it often happens to be impossible to resist and computer security system fail.

Computer Security on the internet is vital for home and business use as there are increasingly hostile environments when users surf the net. It is very important for users to be educated on the dangers they may face while on the internet. Your computer connected to the internet is similar to your house in many ways. Users search on the internet for free computer security software which they dump into their computers and hope for the best.

The Internet is a wonderful place. Anyone with an Internet connection can stay in touch with family and friends via email. Computer security is growing rapidly by the minute and the only one who has control over their files of information is the user. It is strongly suggested that users equip their pc with an armed fire wall for vital protection.

An advice is to use Microsoft Windows Update to keep your operating system and Internet Explorer patched. Other advice could be to only conduct Internet transactions that have secured processing. Even if you have a computer connected to the Internet only to play the latest games or to send email to friends and family, your computer could be a target.

Although confidentiality, integrity and authenticity are the most important things when it comes to computer security in general, for everyday internet users, privacy is the most important one, because many people think that they have nothing to hide or the information they give doesn't seem sensitive when they register with an internet service/site.

Spyware

An avenue for Spyware to infect your machine is through popular Peer-to-Peer File Sharing software such as Kazaa. Extreme spyware like Rootkits and other advanced spyware have fundamentally changed the playing field in todays computer security.

While it may seem to be common sense, many of the most widely-spread attacks have involved spyware and email attachment worms. Often these packages come as suites including a firewall and Spyware scanner. They scan and destroy spyware as its found in the users computer.

Regardless of the type of spyware, it can slow your computer to a crawl and needs to be removed from your computer. Spyware occurs when certain websites run programs in the back ground of your computer while gleaning information from it. There is now a bill in the US Congress to make Spyware illegal.

Anti-spyware tools will greatly assist in protecting your privacy and restoring full computer functions that spyware may have taken over. In the internet world it is vital for users to have a good spyware scan (a recommended and reliable one can be found in the Author Resource Box below) and removal tool because of the multitude of different spyware, adware, Trojans and other malware constantly looking to attack your system. Spyware can slow down your computer, and would have to be removed.

There are tools available which include good free Spyware removal software among other security measures the user can take to protect the computer from malicious attack such as Viruses, Spyware and Adware. The recommended one is staed below. Spyware not only covertly runs in the background and steals personal information of the user it is a potential security threat of which the extent of the damage cannot be determined.

Antivirus

With all of the marketing commotion that surrounds viruses, you should already have antivirus software on all of your computers. Let me explain something, just because you have a antivirus software program on your computer you are not cured. Until recently could one install a firewall and an antivirus program and feel quite secure.

Protection services could commonly include the ability of an administrator to monitor activity throughout the system as well as potentially block hazardous material on the internet from being viewed by other users, the ability to manage automatic updates and what's more the ability to enquire about the status of antivirus software. These include firewall, spyware scanning software and antivirus software.

Everyone needs to have proper computer security measures in place to make sure they are consistently free from all these malicious software. Urgent action should be taken now.

How Many Clicks You Do To Wipe File?

Some facts about file security in Windows

If you concerned about your privacy then I'm sure you know about file shredders and what they do. These tools address the security problems associated with deletion operation. In Windows operation system user cannot do a secure deletion of files. This means that anyone who has access to your computer or to the hard disk of your computer can recover your deleted files.

Let me list some facts and questions that often discussed when we talk about secure deletion of files.

The first fact is that any deleted file can be recovered. There is no need to buy expensive tools, even freeware file recovery utility can do this job for you or for other person.

The second fact is that pressing delete + shift keys dont make file irrecoverable. Anyone can still recover your sensitive information.

The third fact is that emptying Recycle Bin will not help secure your files too.

So why developers of operation system dont include this feature? A good question, and the answer is that we actually dont want all files to be irrecoverable. There is a chance that you might delete some really important file. Developers of operation system give you a choice to use or not to use file shredders. Those who are concerned about security prefer to user file shredders.

Tools to wipe sensitive files

There are a lot of ways to secure your files. Some works well, other dont actually help. The most popular approach is wiping free disk space regularly. This is a good idea, but you must have in mind that you will be able to wipe free space only in the end of working day or week, so some files and information could be recovered before this. Also, some software products silently delete and create files, so wiping free space is not a 100% guaranty of file security. Our research shows that wiping free space will cover only 90% of all deleted information. What are others 10%? Its temporary files and cached files. In other words its your sensitive data and internet browser history. More over, wiping free space is a routine, time-taking computer task that may be a real hassle for your security administrator.

Another idea is to use a file shredder every time you wish to securely delete your file. Its a great idea as you know what files are really important and should be deleted without possibility to recover. The bad news is that you will need to do some additional steps to process file to file shredder. But in most cases it is just few more clicks. Not a big price to stay secure.

Analyze your security risks

Actually, there are some security holes. First, we should consider files that are created by programs silently, these files can be a cached data or temporary file that office programs always creates. In this case file shredder simply doesnt know what to wipe! As temporary file may actually appear at your hard disk for a second, but will contain a valuable information.

For sure, wiping free space is performing better, but remember that it will wipe only space that is actually free. It will not consider cached data (the history and cache or your internet browser), it will not consider some sectors just because the shredder could damage your data.

Another security risk is remote users that may access your hard disk by network. You dont know what do these users do, if they delete files or not. Due to security limitation, these users will not be able to use a file shredder at your hard disk.

Wiping free space does it work for temporary and cached files?

What you need to look at is a file shredder that works in background mode. Actually, you need a file shredder that will capture all deletion operation that your system do. In this case, you wont need to drop files to file shredder, as it captures all deletion operation and can see all file that you do delete. Also, the problem of temporary files will be solved as other program utilize a common system interface to delete files and it will be possible to capture all operations with temporary and cached files.

More file security risks

Are temporary and cached file a great security risk? Actually, they are. For instance, temporary files of office wording tools contains a copy of all file text data. So anyone who recover temporary file will have access to your sensitive data. For sure, wiping free space can do 90% of job you need to be done for deleted sensitive files, but there are still from 2-5% of files that could be recovered and might contain sensitive information.

For instance, if you clear cookies or cache of your web-browser, you cannot use file shredder utility. Also, the hard disk space dedicate to cached file will still be occupied, this means that wipe free space will not actually secure this information. In this case only background mode file shredder will be able to wipe files in a proper way.

When to drill your hard disk?

Its a good idea to use background mode file shredder to stay secure now. Does this method guaranty 100% privacy? Actually not. There still might be some chance of recovering files. So, if you will ever need to completely destroy data, then you will need to destroy computer hard disk physically. As for other purposes, for instance when you need to provide day to day file security using background file shredder is a great option.

Protect your privacy now!

Actually, it was the art when only security admin knew about tools we had to use. Various file shredders, wiping free space every weekend and so on. For now, ask your security admin to install a background mode file shredder and forget about your security risks. Well, you still might face a problem as wiping operation is a little longer that deletion. So it would be great if you could fine tune your shredder to wipe only specific files or files within a specific location. In this way you will save your time and will still stay secure.

What You Need To Know About Computer Viruses

What, another computer security article? Who needs it? Aren't we tired of all that techie stuff that only geeks can comprehend? Virus my foot! But seriously. Computer security is an important topic and those who neglect it will surely get themselves in trouble sooner or later.

There is much confusion about what exactly a computer virus is. To many people a virus is simply any kind of bad thing that happens to their computer. This would be more or less correct around 1995, but since then several other threats have appeared and using a blanket term like 'virus' for all of them is misleading. Having said that, I don't mean any disrespect to the word 'virus'. After all, it is the granddaddy of all malicious software (or malware for short).

Old School Viruses

At first viruses were rather simple-minded, although dangerous at times. All they wanted was to enter your computer and destroy some data. Their favorite way of transmission was to attach themselves to otherwise harmless programs.

Worms

As "state of the art" viruses developed, a new breed came to the scene: worms. This charming name is used to describe a type of virus that not only infects the host machine, but also replicates itself over the network. In practice that means that a well-written worm can create real mayhem around the world in a matter of days. It is estimated that damage from some famous worms reaches billions of dollars.

Trojan Horses

Many programs, multimedia or other goodies can be found on the Internet. Often they are free and, let's face it, there are very few things that people like more than free stuff. The trouble with some free software is that it also comes with one or more viruses already included free of charge. Hence the name "Trojan Horse".

Are viruses good for my computer?

Absolutely! If you want to get rid of all that data clogging up your hard drive, a virus is a wonderful solution. If you want your spanking new computer to slow down to a crawl, then a virus is the way to go. If you're lucky, you may even get a worm which will not only help you clean up your computer from all those annoying files, but will also send a copy of itself to all your friends that it finds in your Outlook address book. In short, if you think that your computer is too fast and gives you too little trouble, a virus or two can really help!

Thankfully, you don't have to try too hard to get a virus. Simply connect an unprotected computer to the Internet for a few hours and let them come. That's all it takes.

Tips on How to Protect Yourself

Truth be told, viruses are not as hot as they used to be. It turns out that there's not much money in writing them. This of course doesn't mean that you should neglect the virus threat. There are quite a few dangerous viruses roaming the Internet. So keep your hard drive happy and don't let the viruses ruin your day. Here is what you can do:

1) Use a good antivirus program and update it regularly. Unfortunately, some antivirus products inflict more damage than actual viruses do. So, before getting an antivirus program, be sure to read some professional reviews and user feedback.

2) If you download software from the Internet, use only reputable sources. Scan the installation file with an antivirus program before running it.

3) Be very careful about opening email attachments. Be particularly vigilant if you use Microsoft Outlook.

Spyware: the expensive free extra

Everyone has heard the saying Theres no such thing as a free lunch. Its a saying which means that you pay for everything eventually, in one way or another. Even stuff which is free often has a hidden cost, and this couldnt be more true of a growing problem affecting thousands of computers worldwidespyware.

The reason that Spywareand its closely-related cousin, Adwarecan be described as a free lunch that is anything but free, is that it is often installed on a computer without the users consent by piggy-backing on some free software that the user downloaded from the internet, but then can end up costing a computer owner dearly.

A computer infected with Spyware can monitor the use of the computer and collect personal information without the users consent. Some of this personal information may be innocuous, but some may be extremely important and financially-sensitive, including passwords to membership sites, bank account details, credit card numbers and bank passwords. Not the type of thing anyone wants to fall into the hands of unscrupulous people. Some Spyware simply collects information to be used by marketing teams, though this does bring up issues of privacy, even if the information is not used for criminal purposes.

Adware could be said to be less malicious than Spyware, though it does operate in much the same way. Like Spyware, Adware is often downloaded along with a piece of free software and operates without the knowledge or consent of the user.

It is true that a lot of Spyware is simply used for marketing purposes and is not of the malicious type although it is still unwanted and unauthorized. When you suddenly see advertisements appearing that are completely unrelated to the web site they appear on, thats a pretty good indication that somehow Adware has been installed. Another side-effect of both Spyware and Adware can be an extremely slow computer as the programs hog systems resources.

Both Spyware and Adware embed themselves into the operating system of the computer, which can make it extremely difficult to remove them. This is especially true of the forms of Adware and Spyware which conceal themselves on the computerif the user doesnt know they are there he isnt going to try to remove them. Some types of Spyware can even bypass anti-virus software and then disable parts of it, which means the PC then becomes open to more infections from other Spyware of Adware programs.

So what is the best way to avoid a Spyware or Adware infection? Keeping your web browser up to date and ensuring your anti-virus software is the latest version is one way. But one of the simplest ways is to avoid downloading free programs from the internet. Those free programs may give you something cool to play withbut they may also give you something not so cool along with it. The next time youre tempted to download some free program that sounds good, remember the saying that there really is no such thing as a free lunchespecially when it comes to computer security.

Top 5 Business Card Printing Tips

When you present someone with one of your business cards, you will want it to be a positive reflection of yourself and the way that you conduct business. A polished and professional design that reflects some type of personalization will always be more appealing to the recipient. Therefore, its important to note several tips whether you are choosing a business card printing service or creating your own design at home.

< If you are planning to use a business card printing service, check out their volume pricing discounts. Quite often, you will get a better deal per card if you purchase in quantity.

< Always add a business logo, monogram or some other type of personalization to make your business card stand out. This will give your card instant recognition as the recipient flips through his/her rolodex.

< When choosing your business card layout, make sure that the design suits your industry. For instance, a florist may prefer a rose logo while a handyman service would likely choose some type of tool for their design.

< Prior to approving a business card printing project, make sure that all of the details are correct. This includes your name, title, business name and contact information. Its easy to pay close attention to the design and overlook the most important aspect of a business card, which is the text. This is the information that others will use to contact you, so make sure that its accurate and updated.

< Although business cards are small, try avoiding clutter. This means that your information should be typed in a font that is easily readable and not crowded by other words or images. At the same time, the font that you choose should be small enough to fit all of the information on the card while being large enough to read without difficulty.

Although small in size, business cards are one of your most powerful marketing tools. They do not require you to pay expensive advertising rates in a local publication and they never take up too much space. Therefore, these handy little cards are perfect for giving to current or potential clients. Its important to keep in mind that you will be presenting your card to someone who has also likely received business cards from others, which is why it is so important to choose your business card printing techniques carefully.

Whether you decide to hire a professional printer or opt for designing your own using a computer, consider the thickness of each card and the quality of the paper being used. If you cannot afford a business card printing service or do not have the time to wait for delivery, shop around for a reputable software program that features professional templates and one that is compatible with your computer.

CompTIA Network+ Certification Exam Tutorial: Virus Attacks And Antivirus Programs

Whether youre preparing to pass the Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification exam or not, you must not underestimate the importance of antivirus programs and virus definition updates. With all the attention we pay to viruses and their prevention, I feel a little silly even saying that. But.

If there's one thing you must have working at full capacity in your network, it's the antivirus programs.

If there's one thing that is commonly overlooked when it comes to updates, it's the antivirus programs.

In today's world, your network must be protected from both internal and external antivirus threats. By implementing and executing an aggressive antivirus strategy, you can greatly reduce your network's chances of being hit with a virus. Literally hundreds of millions of dollars in productivity are lost every year due to virus attacks, along with a few jobs. Make sure both your network and career are protected!

You may be asking yourself what this has to do with the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. To earn this important computer certification, youve got to display knowledge of threats to your network and how to stop them and viruses are at the top of that list.

Before we discuss how to stop viruses, let's discuss exactly what a virus is. All of the following are bad, but they're not all viruses.

Just as a human virus is spread through contact, so is a computer virus. A virus is a program that gets onto a computer without a user's knowledge and then performs an action that can range from mischievous to destructive. For a virus to be spread, there has to be some kind of contact between an infected user and another user - generally, that contact is the forwarding of an email that has an attachment that contains a virus.

A worm is a type of virus, but a worm can spread on its own without any "help" from the infected host. Even worse, a worm can replicate on its own, resulting in many more worms attacking other hosts. A common worm attack involves the worm sending a copy of itself to every single user listed in the infected host's email address book.

A third, more insidious attacker is the Trojan Horse. In history, the Trojan Horse was presented as a gift to Troy by the Greeks, and it was filled with Greek soldiers who attacked once the Horse was taken inside the city's defenses. Today's Trojan Horses attack in much the same fashion. The program installed by the user may look legitimate and innocent, but there's another program inside just waiting to attack the user's computer.

It's a good idea to periodically remind your end users about some basic steps they can take to help prevent unleashing a virus:

Don't open email attachments from anyone outside the company.

Don't download software and install it, especially what I call "fun and free" software such as gaming programs, animated cursors, etc. Most of that software is safe, but a minority of those programs contain adware and could unleash a virus on your network.

Don't open email from anyone you don't know, especially if the subject line doesnt make any sense. Just trash it.

End user education is important, but we have to face facts its not perfect. That's true for virus protection as well as network security. I personally wish I had a dime for every password I've seen written on a sticky note that was attached to the monitor! As network admins and engineers, we've got to be aggressive in the fight against viruses and not depend on others.

While we should certainly have an antivirus program on every server in our network, there is one point of communication that we've got to be particularly sensitive to, since this is where most viruses and worms make their way into our network the email server.

We've got to be particularly vigilant about the email server's antivirus protection, since this is where users come in contact the email attachments that can lead to so much trouble. When a host is receiving email from an email server, the antivirus program on the client should scan that email even before it's opened.

Attachments are a major source of viruses, and many networks now have a firewall strip attachments off before they even get to the email server. Firewalls are devices used to filter traffic, and a firewall can be set to remove incoming attachments. If attachments aren't allowed to enter the network, end users can't launch them and their potential viral payload.

This common configuration also gives you the option to reject incoming email that has an attachment, along with the option of notifying the sender that the email was filtered for that reason.

Bottom line: every email attachment is a virus threat.

So how do you best protect your network against viruses, Trojan horses, and the like? Well discuss that in tomorrows CompTIA Network+ certification exam tutorial! Until then, keep studying!
